Avalon Walnut Creek Transit Oriented Development
Podium courtyard in apartment block
Avalon Walnut Creek at the Pleasant Hill / Contra Costa Centre BART Station is a complete redevelopment of the 19-acre Pleasant Hill BART facility located in Walnut Creek. The development provides 549 units of housing (both for sale and rental), 35,500 square feet of retail, 12,000 square feet of live-work, and 290,000 square feet of office and conference facilities to create a vibrant mixed use community on land previously occupied by parking lots. The retail and community uses are strategically interwoven with public spaces to serve as attractors and activators of pedestrian activity.
Placed at the core of the project, the town square is an amenity to both residents and BART riders connecting the community to the regional Iron Horse Trail. The site also serves as a transit center where busses from multiple transit systems converge.
Phase 2 of the project, consisting of one block of 200 more apartment units, is currently under construction.

The branding, signage and wayfinding program creates a memorable identity and sense of place for the vibrant development and helps residents and visitors to navigate the site. Included in the graphics program are visitor kiosks, pedestrian orientation, directions to parking and transit, along with visibility for retail tenants.
